The first PSNI Hydra suite opened in June 2005, with 3 staff, 5 syndicate rooms, control room, plenary, studio / role play room, and the option of using a larger lecture room as a plenary for very large groups. Hydra rapidly proved to be a popular learning experience, and PSNI opened a second suite in February 2007. This is slightly smaller than the main suite with only 4 syndicate rooms and no separate studio or second plenary but otherwise includes the same full Hydra functionallity.
PSNI, NI Fire & Rescue, and the NI Prision Service are in the advanced stages of planning a new joint training college at Desertcreat, Co Tyrone. To be known as The Northern Ireland Community Safety College it will incorporate 3 brand new Hydra suites, two in the academic campus and one in the practical training village. See www.desertcreatcollege.org for latest details.
