In September 2010 the new South Yorkshire Police Training Centre, ‘Robert Dyson House’, opened for business. In the East wing of the top floor of the new centre is a purpose built Hydra Immersive Learning Suite. The facilities that this provides are new to South Yorkshire Police, incorporating state of the art technology to run ‘Hydra’ or Minerva based training exercises including professional quality media facilities.
South Yorkshire Police and Humberside police have joint HR and Training functions so the facilities are used by SYP and Humberside staff and officers as well as running regional and national training and events. The layout, rooms and the technology within them have been designed to offer the best possible platform for the Hydra technology whilst being flexible to accommodate other compatible learning technologies. We have a plenary room suitable for around forty delegates with a larger conference room just next door. There are five fully equipped and dedicated Hydra syndicate rooms. A sixth syndicate room is also available and doubles up as the professional level media studio linked. A large control room has ten monitoring positions with separate areas for both Hydra staff and the facilitation team.
