Risk

Work has focused on the development of evidence-based risk-management tools to support practitioners working in Terrorism and Child Protection. The Office for Security and Counter Terrorism funded CAMI to develop a structured decision tool now widely used in screening for counter radicalisation initiatives. An EU funding package of £1.1 million has enabled Laurence Alison to develop and coordinate - in conjunction with Kent Police - use of the Kent Internet Risk Assessment Tool (KIRAT), now the UK’s national risk management tool for assessing indecent image offences. Preliminary data indicates that KIRAT has suppressed 20% of potential offenders from committing contact offences over the last five years. CAMI plans to build on these successes through projects that involve the development of a tool for prioritising search locations for missing and vulnerable people and that explore community engagement in response to forced marriages and honour based violence.
